Meet the Judges: Jennifer Dawn

Join me today, friends, in welcoming Jennifer Dawn to the panel of One Crafty Contest judges!  Here she is...

I'm Jennifer Dawn--a wife, mother, teacher, and the face behind the blog "The Life of Jennifer Dawn" where I share snapshots of my life and my family, an assortment of craft and sewing projects, recipes, and tales from mommydom.  You can also find me on "Making the World Cuter" as the sewing contributor.  Blogging and crafting is fantastic, but my favorite times are those spent with the loves of my life--my husband and three children.

What is your favorite, must-have craft supply?
My must-have craft supply is double sided tape.  It has so many great uses including this one.

What is your favorite project you've created?
Well, if you ask my daughter, she would say the Fairy Village in a Hatbox that I crafted for her.

What do you order at Starbucks?
Green Tea Frappuccinos are fabulous on warm days, but on those cold days when you need something warm and comforting a Caramel Macchiato or Chai Tea Latte is my drink of choice.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I've been to Spain, but I would love to have the opportunity to travel throughout all of Europe.

What's the best part about crafting?
I love to see the way simple supplies and materials meld and mesh into something fabulous.  It's seeing the transformation that makes crafting so much fun!

Why are you looking forward to judging this contest?
It is an honor and delight to have been chose as a judge for this crafty contest.  I'm excited to see all of the amazing projects and talents from the competitors and to be inspired by their creativity.

Meet the Judges: Jessi

Friends, I'm excited to introduce you to our next judge, who knows the competition from the other side...last year she was one of our contestants!  Here she is to introduce herself...

Hi!  I'm Jessi from Practically Functional, where I blog about simple, practical ways to love your home, no matter where you live! We have a tiny apartment just 5 miles north of Downtown Chicago, but the small space (and lack of a car!) doesn't stop me from crafting, cooking, gardening, organizing, and even big DIY projects. We love every single square foot of our little home, and you can love yours too! And don't worry, I'll give you detailed instructions and pictures in every tutorial. :-)

Meet the Judges: Cindy

Friends, join me today in welcoming Cindy to our judging panel for One Crafty Contest!  Here she is to introduce herself to you!

My name is Cindy deRosier.  I live in beautiful Northern California, midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, with my husband Steve and our 6 year old son Trevor.  I have an MA in Education and taught 4th/5th grade for 11 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom.

I love learning and trying new things.  To celebrate my 40th birthday, I spent 2012 trying 40 new things.  I was a volunteer for the Mythbusters TV show, cooked from a mystery basket, tackled the World's Largest Maze, held a Cupcake Wars competition, tried Miracle Berries, took classes in glass flamework and lapidary, and did a Planet Walk.  You can read about all these (and more) here.

One Crafty Contest: Meet the Judges 2013

Hey, friends!  Today, I have two really exciting things to share with you!  The first thing is that I get to reveal the fabulous judges who will be helping out and moderating One Crafty Contest.  The judges' official responsibilities consist of helping to select the Top 20 Contestants and "saving" one contestant whose votes place her in the bottom six during each round.  Each judge will be sharing a more detailed bio with you starting May 7th, but here's a quick introduction to these awesome ladies:

Meet the Judges: Amy

Hi there, friends!  Well, it looks like there's only one judge left to introduce, and that's me

Areas of Expertise: Painting, Sewing, Kids' Crafts, Jewelry, Home Decor

I know many of you are regular readers and friends here at One Artsy Mama, so you probably know all this about me and more, but just in case this is your first visit, here's a little more about me!

I've been married to my best friend for 10 years, and love being mama to our 3 year old Little Crafter.  I'm a professional ballroom, latin, and swing dancer and love working with couples to help them find a hobby they can enjoy together for the rest of their lives.

I'm happiest when I'm creating something, especially if my Little Crafter is helping me.  I'm passionate about Jesus, good grammar, my family, and our awesome church, and I'm addicted to Starbucks.

The one crafting supply I can't do without is:  Mod Podge.  Is there anything you can't do with that stuff?  My buddy Terry and I like to joke about how if I were stranded on a desert island, I'd Mod Podge myself a raft and just float along on it making jewelry until someone rescued me.

My favorite crafting project ever is:
Well, currently it's my stenciled vanity redo because I'm just so darn excited about it and I love how it looks!  I still get excited every time I see it!  It's one of those projects that was a little out of my comfort zone/area of expertise, so it was a fun challenge for me.

My favorite Starbucks drink is:
I'm a seasonal drinker...lol.  In the Winter, it's a Peppermint Mocha.  Fall = Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate.  Spring = Chai Latte.  Summer = Mocha Coconut.

If I could visit anywhere in the world, I'd choose: somewhere with a beach!  I'd also love to visit England because I'm a total literature nerd and I think it'd be awesome to see places that were significant to some of my favorite authors like Jane Austen and Shakespeare...plus castles are just cool.

The best thing about crafting is: It's so hard to pick just one thing!  I love the whole creative process...getting a great idea, buying the materials, and then making it happen.  And then, of course, I love seeing the finished product.  I love giving away things I've made and seeing them brighten someone else's day, and I love it when I can hand-make something for myself and my family to enjoy in our home too!

I'm looking forward to judging because: I am beside myself with excitement to see all the fun crafty things y'all come up with!  I've got my pinning finger ready!  I also love that I get to "save" people from elimination because as hubby and I always shout at the TV when we're watching So You Think You Can Dance, "Order is important!"  I hate it when someone deserving gets cut too soon!  I also am excited to give away lots of fun prizes and reward people just for being crafty!

Well, what are you waiting for?  Head on over and link up your project to enter the contest!

Happy Crafting!

Meet the Judges: Kim

Are you ready to meet Super-Judge #4?
Areas of Expertise: Painting, Home Decor, Kids Crafts, Jewelry, Paper Crafts

Hey everyone, I'm happy to be here! Or should I say I'm giddy with the power which has been bestowed upon me as a judge of this fabulous contest.  Bwah, hah, hah, hah (that's my evil laugh as I sinisterly drum my fingers together!)  Thank you, Amy, for allowing me this privilege. So let me introduce myself, I'm Kimberly, mom to 6 awesome kids ages 16, 13, 9, and triplets who are almost 7; wife to my wonderful husband, Bill; piano teacher; organizing nazi and lover of crafts of all kinds.  I also like watching movies or reading a good book, but most of all, I love spending time with my family.  I enjoy blogging about it all at The Brown Eyes Have It, where my oldest and I, as the only green-eyes in the family, are greatly outnumbered by all the brown-eyes in our home.

To answer Amy's Super 6 questions:
The one crafting supply I can't do without is:  probably my computer.  I get my inspiration and directions from Pinterest, blogs, or other sources on-line; listen to music on Pandora; watch missed episodes of my favorite TV shows; or stream movies to my TV through my computer - all crafting necessities.

My favorite crafting project ever is:
My mirror to chalkboard upcycle - It's the project that made me decide to change my blog from a family blog to what it is now.  I was so proud of the transformation and I use it weekly in my kitchen still.

My favorite Starbucks drink is:  Well, the closest Starbucks is 30 miles away in Barnes & Noble, I think; I’m not a coffee drinker; and don’t hate me, Amy, but I really don’t like the smell of coffee.  So that being said, I’ll take a vanilla Coke any day.

If I could visit anywhere in the world, I'd choose: anywhere!  My husband's not a traveler, so we don't travel much.

The best thing about crafting is:
some "me" time!  Plus a sense of accomplishment at what I've created, joy at learning something new, and the fun of teaching it to or sharing it with my family.  My oldest daughters often scrapbook or make jewelry with me, that is so much fun!
I'm looking forward to judging because:  I can't wait to be inspired by all of you and see all of your fantastic creations. I've been in many competitions, but this is the first time I get to be behind the scenes as a judge, pretty cool!

Welcome, Captain!
Alright, friends, come back tomorrow to meet judge #5...although I have a suspicion most of you already know her pretty well...

Meet the Judges: Beth

Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to another member of the judging panel for One Crafty Contest:

Areas of Expertise: Painting, Upcycling, Home Decor, Kids' Crafts, and Jewelry

Hey there, I'm Beth from
I'm a wife and mommy and so close to opening my shop! I recently reveled my Darkest Secret to my readers and given advice on having a Fashion Identity Crisis. I tend to hit on some very serious subjects and can be silly the following day. You can find me all over Facebook and Twitter and I'd love to be anywhere on a beach right this moment. My perfect afternoon would be comfy leggings, a white mocha from Starbucks and some vintage thrifting. Oh and a little peace and quiet, is that too much to ask?
I love to craft and finding purpose for things that aren't useful. My favorite project recently was my Bedroom Makeover. I love the old shutters that I turned into our headboard and all the thrifted accessories. It's so hard but really I couldn't live without paint and glue because they complete so many of my projects. I'm inspired by all of the amazing talent in this blogging world and I can't wait to see what you all come up with. I know I will be inspired and so many others will too.
Good Luck Friends and Stop by and Say Hey!

Meet the Judges: Ashley

Friends, I am beside myself with excitement today to introduce you to the first of our super-judges:

aka: Ashley {from Cherished Bliss}

Areas of expertise: Sewing, Painting, Home Decor

Hi everyone! I’m Ashley and I am SO excited to be a judge here at One Artsy Mama!
I am married to the love of my life and have the two most adorable kids in the whole.wide.world (it’s true!).
I guess I really started crafting and sewing when I was pregnant with my daughter. I have always wanted to sew adorable clothes for my little girl, so I started with her crib bedding and taught myself to sew and I am still teaching myself to sew! I spray paint pretty much everything in sight and love trying to decorate my home!
On the non craft side I just recently moved from Texas to Wisconsin away for all my family : ( But I am loving it here! Coffee and me, well we are best friends… if I don’t have it, it gets a little scary around here! I wish I read more, but who has time to blog, take care of a house and kids. I read blogs, does that count?
I’d love for you to stop by my blog sometime, ask me a million questions, I love answering them!
This is ME : )
Ashley_edited-1

The one crafting supply I can't do without is: Really.. only one?! My sewing machine…… and paint. I tried I really can’t pick just one!

My favorite crafting project ever is:
This is such a tough one. I love everything I make for different reasons. But probably my
Yarn Tote
Yarn Tote Tutorial_edited-1
I created these completely out of my own need and without anyone else’s inspiration. I actually entered this into the one month to win it competition I was in and it took me FOREVER to come up with it! Plus it fills a need and is completely functional.

My favorite Starbucks drink is: Vanilla Latte with marble pound cake of course!

If I could visit anywhere in the world, I'd choose: Well, New York City is one of my favorite places, but I’ve been there so… I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Scotland!

The best thing about crafting is: It makes me happy. It also gives me that thing in life that only belongs to me. As mothers we give everything we have to our kids and husband and we just need something that is our own! However, I love including my kiddo’s when I can! Nothing makes me smile more than when they are helping me!

I'm looking forward to judging because: I secretly stalk all the craft competitions and I love looking through all of the entries! I have competed in two and I wanted to sit on the other side of the table ; )

-----------

So there is a little bit more about me! I forgot to mention, I’m also SLIGHTLY obsessed with using smiley faces : ) < see!

I hope you will stop by and say Hi! Here are a few of my recent projects.
(just click the picture for the tutorial)

and don’t forget to stop by and link up at my Craft and Tell link party!

Hope to see you there : )
